Favorite Women’s Non-Profit

The Women’s Health Center of Maryland (WHC) is a safe and affirming clinic offering comprehensive reproductive and sexual wellness care to people in rural Maryland as well as making themselves available to women from surrounding states, where reproductive rights and care has become more restrictive or eliminated entirely. Donations are always appreciated!

  • Dr. Louise Newson - interviews urologist and sexual health doctor Dr. Rachel Rubin who explains the importance of your whole genitourinary system and why just using the term “vaginal dryness” is misleading.

  • Dr. Kelly Casperson has a podcast called You Are Not Broken. In this podcast Dr. Casperson is the interviewee and shares invaluable information in Your Sexual Health.

  • Omisade Burney-Scott: In this episode of Black Girl’s Guide to Menopause, Ms. Burney-Scott travels to the UK to interview Karen Arthur, a UK-based podcaster and the creator of "Menopause Whilst Black."

Favorite Facts We Learned this Year

  • 64 million US women are 50 and older (we are many and mighty!).

  • The average woman spends 40% of her life post menopause.

  • The benefits of hormone replacement therapy outweigh the risks for most women who start HRT and who are under 60 years (Estrogen Matters provides the evidence and details behind this fact).

  • 80% of graduating internal medicine residents feel incompetent or unprepared to discuss or treat menopause.

  • 82% of women do not orgasm from intercourse alone and require additional clitoral stimulation. (An important fact to share!)

  • As much as 20% of bone loss occurs within your first five years of menopause.

  • The percentage of lonely American adults has doubled since the 1980s, reaching 40%.
